Palestinian Leader To Visit Kazan

Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas is expected to visit Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, on January 27, RFE/RL's Tatar-Bashkir Service reports.

KAZAN, Tatarstan -- Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas is expected to visit Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, on January 27, RFE/RL's Tatar-Bashkir Service reports.

Abbas is due to hold talks with the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in the Russian city of Sochi on January 25. He then will travel to Moscow and Kazan.

Abbas is scheduled to meet with teachers and students of the Kazan-based Russian Islamic University at Kol-Sharif Mosque and Blagoveshchenye Orthodox Church in the Kazan Kremlin on January 28.

Later that day, Abbas will visit the city's history museum and Kazan State University and meet with some Palestinian students who are studying at universities in Tatarstan.
