Phase 4 Films is releasing on DVD 'The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry,' a film that the producers say "proudly illustrates the power of mentorship, friendship and evangelism to change our lives forever. "
Gavin MacLeod has the title role in the film, which chronicles the friendship of an elderly man and several neighborhood boys.
MacLeod, most noted for his roles in 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' and 'The Love Boat' television shows, said of his role "I have been acting for more than 60 years," says Gavin, "and have worked with some of the biggest stars in the history of show business, but the greatest honor I have ever had was to play the role of Jonathan Sperry. This film has all the elements that make a good movie. It's funny, encouraging and very touching. I am so proud of the inspirational message this movie delivers for the Lord."
Created by writer and director Rich Christiano,'The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry,' intends to explain what "Christian living and unconditional love truly mean. The movie inspires viewers to appreciate what is important in life," according to a news release.
"I hope this movie causes the viewer to envy this moment in America," says Christiano. "Our society today seems so complex and we live in a rat race."
In addition to MacLeod as the title character, 'The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry' includes Robert Guillaume ('Benson') as Mr. Barnes, Jonathan Sperry's neighbor. The film also includes young actors Jansen Panettiere, younger brother of Hayden Panettiere of 'Heroes' fame, as well as Frankie Ryan Manriquez ('That's So Raven') and newcomer, Allen Isaacson.
'The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry' played in more than 300 theaters and was among the top 15 grossing independent theatrical movies of this past year.
