Article Tools

Vatican sources provided a list of Catholic priests, religious, and pastoral workers who lost their lives to violence as they carried out their missionary vocation in various parts of the world in 2010.

According to a Vatican report, during 2010, 23 pastoral care workers were killed. These included: one Bishop, 15 priests, one male religious, one religious sister, two seminarians and three lay people.

Analysing the list for each continent, again this year the place most affected, with an extremely elevated number of deaths is the Americas, where 15 pastoral care workers, 10 priests, one male religious, one seminarian and three lay people were killed. Following is Asia, where one Bishop, four priests and one religious sister were killed. The least affected was Africa, where a one priest and a seminarian lost their lives in violent incidents.
