A leftist antifa group, Serve The People of Los Angeles (STPLA), organized a protest against the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE). At the rally, the group called for a “sea of armed masses” to seize power in the United States. Dozens of protesters went to south central Los Angeles on Monday to demand the release of Gladis Hernandez -- a Mexican national who is currently being held at the Adelanto immigration detention facility administered by ICE.
Wearing red bandanas, some of the protesters covered their faces at the rally that was held near the new Bank of California Stadium in front of the Los Angeles Coliseum. They held banners and flags, and also displayed a pinata in the shape of President Trump.
According to the leftist IncendiaryNews website, Hernandez was with her son selling food near the new stadium when she was stopped by California State Police. She was subsequently turned over to ICE. Members of her family, who had worked with STPLA in the past on other campaigns for illegal aliens, called on the group for help.
At the Monday rally, STPLA protesters walked from the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and Figueroa Street while chanting F**k ICE! F**k the pigs!” At the main entrance of the stadium, members of STPLA joined with other protesters who denounced city officials for alleged harassment of street vendors. According to IncendiaryNews, organizers demanded an end to “all attacks on undocumented working-class immigrants” while calling on what it termed “People’s Revolutionary Defense Units” to use “revolutionary violence against the enemies of the people.”
We encourage everyone coming out to wear bandanas or any other covering to protect yourself https://t.co/pfc3WNsjqR— Servir al Pueblo-LA/Serve the People-LA (@stp__la) August 14, 2018
“STPLA and their supporters are bold and honest enough to say that rallies or even militant and illegal protests alone won’t do anything. What is needed, they say, is a ‘sea of armed masses’ organized to defend ourselves but most importantly organized to take power.”
Protesters shouted insults and burned road flares. When sheriff’s deputies and highway patrol officers ordered the protesters to extinguish the flares and remain on the sidewalk, organizers said that the “masses don’t have to do anything they say.”
The report by IncendiaryNews noted that protesters photographed a “white lady” inside one of the trucks on the scene, who “laughed and taunted them.” The report predicted that her real identity would be made public by the group after her photo was circulated online.
The report said, “STPLA says the masses want revolutionary vengeance, and it appears to be true especially in the deepest and most profound section of the masses, in the scapegoated and attacked undocumented immigrant neighborhoods who now speak more openly about arming themselves and defending their families and way of life at all costs.”
