In a far-ranging interview with Australian journalist John Pilger, open-government activist Julian Assange spoke of revelations not only about Hillary Clinton’s fundraising among foreign nations for the Clinton Foundation, but also linkage to funding for the Islamic State, also known as ISIS. Assange, the founder of the WikiLeaks hacking organization, claimed that there is a broad conspiracy to obstruct Donald Trump’s candidacy. Broadcast on Russian state television, Assange was asked by journalist John Pilger to comment on the significance of the reopening of the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was Secretary of State.
Assange started the conversation by denying that WikiLeaks has anything to do with the Russian security apparatus, as asserted by the Obama administration and trumpeted by the Clinton campaign. The Clinton campaign has sought to link Russia and the embarrassing hacked emails to Donald Trump as well.
Videotaped for a documentary at the Ecuadorean embassy in London, Assange asserted that the FBI seeks to show that no one is above being investigated, and cited the case of former CIA chief David Petraeus, who gave classified information to a journalist who happened to be his lover. “But Hillary Clinton very conspicuously resisted the FBI’s investigation, so there’s anger within the FBI because it made the FBI look weak,” said Assange.
He went on to say that with the release of the emails from Clinton campaign director John Podesta by WikiLeaks, which has revealed the Clinton Foundation’s pay-to-play schemes that offer access to states, individuals, and corporations in exchange for money. “[These emails are] combined with the cover up of the Hillary Clinton emails when she was Secretary of State, [which] has led to an environment where the pressure on the FBI increases.”
Speaking about Clinton's role in bolstering Saudi Arabi's defenses, Assange said, "All serious analysts know, and even the US government has agreed, that some Saudi figures have been supporting ISIS and funding ISIS, but the dodge has always been that it is some 'rogue' princes using their oil money to do whatever they like, but actually the government disapproves. But that email says that it is the government of Saudi Arabia, and the government of Qatar that have been funding ISIS.”
“Under Hillary Clinton — and the Clinton emails reveal a significant discussion of it — the biggest-ever arms deal in the world was made with Saudi Arabia: more than $80 billion,” Assange said.
Funding for ISIS and Clinton
After pointing out the donation of millions of dollars from, for example, the governments of Bahrain, Morocco, and Qatar to the Clinton Foundation in exchange for contact with Secretary of State Clinton, Assange sought to connect the donations to the civil war in Syria and beyond. “There’s an early 2014 email from Hillary Clinton, not so long after she left the State Department, to her campaign manager John Podesta that states ISIL is funded by the governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Now this is the most significant email in the whole collection, and perhaps because Saudi and Qatari money is spread all over the Clinton Foundation. Even the U.S. government agrees that some Saudi figures have been supporting ISIL, or ISIS. But the dodge has always been that, well it’s just some rogue princes, using their cut of the oil money to do whatever they like, but actually the government disapproves. But that email says that no, it is the governments of Saudi and Qatar that have been funding ISIS.”
In other words, the governments that fund Hillary Clinton also fund the Islamic State terrorists who are fighting to overthrow Syrian President Bashr al-Assad but have also sworn to invade Europe and defeat the United States, too. When Pilger asked Assange whether the same money funds both ISIS and Clinton, Assange simply answered "yes."
Seeking to understand Clinton, Assange said he felt quite sorry for her as who is “someone who is eaten alive by their ambitions, tormented literally to the point where they become sick; they faint as a result of [the reaction] to their ambitions.” He goes on to say that she is the “centralising cog” in a network of people and relationships with particular states, involving “gears” in operation, such as “Goldman Sachs and major elements of Wall Street, and intelligence and people in the State Department and the Saudis.”
“She’s the smooth central representation of all that, and ‘all that’ is more or less what is in power now in the United States. It’s what we call the establishment or the DC consensus,” said Assange, who flagged a email that showed that a representative of CitiBank who suggested the names of most of President Barack Obama’s cabinet members.
Trump will not be allowed to win
But it was when Assange was asked about the U.S. presidential election that he made even more startling assertions, and made some pithy observations about the success of Donald Trump’s appeal. Pilger asked, “You get complaints from people saying, ‘What is WikiLeaks doing? Are they trying to put Trump in the Whitehouse?” Assange answered, “My answer is that Trump would not be permitted to win. Why do I say that? Because he’s had every establishment off side; Trump doesn’t have one establishment, maybe with the exception of the Evangelicals, if you can call them an establishment, but banks, intelligence [agencies], arms companies… big foreign money … are all united behind Hillary Clinton, and the media as well, media owners and even journalists themselves.”
When he was asked whether he had a preference for Trump over Clinton, Assange said that Trump represents “American white trash” or what Clinton called “‘deplorable and irredeemable.’” He added, “It means from an establishment or educated cosmopolitan, urbane perspective, these people are like the red necks, and you can never deal with them.” Trump, Assange said, “represents people who are not the middle, not the upper middle educated class, there is a fear of seeming to be associated in any way with them, a social fear that lowers the class status of anyone who can be accused of somehow assisting Trump in any way, including any criticism of Hillary Clinton. If you look at how the middle class gains its economic and social power, that makes absolute sense.”
Assange has taken asylum at the Ecuadorean embassy in London because he fears extradition to Sweden to face charges of sexual harassment. Moreover, if he were to be deported to Sweden, he could then be extradited to the United States to answer charges of aiding in the release of thousands of classified State Department messages that were stolen by Pvt. Bradley Manning and provided to WikiLeaks.
