The Court of Arbitration for Sport has suspended Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador for two years for a doping offense committed during the 2010 Tour de France, which he went on to win.

The suspension, which runs to August 6, 2012, means Contador is stripped of his Tour de France victory and will be unable to take part in this year's edition of the world's most famous cycling road race.

Contador claimed he had ingested a banned substance by eating a contaminated steak after he tested positive for the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol during the French classic in 2010.

The verdict also means that Contador is stripped of all his wins in 2011, which include the Giro d'Italia.

He had been cleared by the Spanish Cycling Federation in 2011.
