President Donald Trump went to Twitter on Monday to accuse Barack Obama of having “colluded” with Russia or “obstructed” the investigations into Russian meddling in America’s political system because of the admitted lack of action on the part of the latter’s administration prior to the presidential election.

In a series of tweets on Monday, Trump appeared to refer to a Washington Post report, which revealed on Friday that the CIA told Obama about alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election as early as August 2016. However, the Obama administration did not disclose to the public its efforts to counter Russian interference until October, just weeks away from Election Day. One un-named Obama-administration source told The Post, “I feel like we sort of choked.” Some leading Democrats, including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who leads the Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, have said that Obama made a “serious mistake” concerning the probe. Schiff told CNN on Sunday, “I think the administration needed to call our Russia earlier, needed to act to deter and punish Russia earlier, and that was a very serious mistake.”

In his tweets, Trump wrote: “The reason that President Obama did NOTHING about Russia after being notified by the CIA of its meddling is that he expected Clinton would win and did not want to ‘rock the boat.’ He didn’t ‘choke,’ he colluded or obstructed, and it did the Dems and Crooked Hillary no good.” Trump went on to say, “The real story is that President Obama did NOTHING after being informed in August about Russian meddling. With 4 months looking at Russia under a magnifying glass, they have zero ‘tapes’ of T[rump people colluding. There is no collusion & no obstruction. I should be given apology!”

So far, investigations into the alleged Russian interference have found no evidence to implicate Trump or his staff in any meddling by Russians.

Despite Democrat disavowals, Trump has said that Obama sat on the information provided to him by the CIA about Russian meddling because polls showed the Hillary Clinton was a shoo-in to victory. In a Sunday tweet, Trump wrote: Trump tweeted on Sunday: “If he had the information, why didn’t he do something about it?”

Obama did expel several Russian diplomats from two diplomatic compounds and put limited sanctions against Russia into place.
