Syrian dictator Bashar Assad said in an interview that will be released in its entirety on February 10 that some of the refugees fleeing his country as “definitely” terrorists. He said that President Donald Trump’s executive order to prohibit refugees temporarily and all Syrian refugees permanently “is an American issue” on which he would not take sides. When asked if some of those who flee are “aligned with terrorists,” Assad replied, “Definitely.”

“You can find it on the Net,” Assad said. “Those terrorists in Syria, holding the machine gun or killing people, they [appear as] peaceful refugees in Europe or in the West.”

Assad would not say how many terrorists are hidden among refugees but posited that “you don’t need a significant number to commit atrocities.” He went on to say that the 9/11 attacks were committed by fewer than 20 terrorists “out of maybe millions of immigrants in the United States. So it’s not about the number, it’s about the quality, it’s about the intentions.”

Assad said with regard to the 4.8 million of his countrymen who are now refugees in various countries, “For me, the priority is to bring those citizens to their country, not to help them immigrate.”
