Famed legal scholar and pundit Alan Dershowitz was interviewed on Fox News’ Kilmeade & Friends radio show, where he predicted that President Donald Trump will work well with Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu in addressing the nettlesome problem of bringing about lasting peace in the Middle East. Much to the contrary, the relationship between Barack Obama and the Israeli leader was fraught with hard feelings.
Dershowitz, an acute observer of Israeli politics and diplomacy, said on February 16 that the establishment media has taken Trump’s willingness to accept a one-state solution in the perennial dispute between Israelis and Palestinians, which came out of this week’s summit meeting of the two leaders, out of context.
Pointing out the coverage by CNN, which Trump has repeatedly criticized, Dershowitz singled out CNN personality Fareed Zakaria, a Pakistani Muslim, who he is said is “dead wrong” about the Middle East. Zakaria labeled Trump’s meeting with Netanyahu “embarassing,” “bizarre and irresponsible.”
“That’s typical of him. He is so biased, so one-sided, so opinionated, you do it either his way or the highway,” Dershowitz said. ”He is just dead wrong. He has been wrong from the beginning about the Middle East and I am not surprised he got this one wrong.”
In the interview, Dershowitz also discussed the significance of the alliance of Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, to fend off the designs of Iran. He also deplored the prospect of the US intelligence community flouting the authority of the president and withholding intelligence from him.
