Pope Francis continues to give testimony to the virtue of humility, according to observers. He was observed praying in the back pews of a chapel following a Mass on March 21 that he officiated for gardeners and janitorial staff at the Vatican. It is not usual for such staff to have such contact with a sitting pope. Currently, the pontiff is living in the Santa Marta residence at the Vatican until the apartments normally reserved for popes is prepared.
According to papal spokesman, Rev. Federico Lombardi – a fellow Jesuit – said “The Pope delivered a a short and very beautiful reflection: if we have a closed heart, a heart of stone, stones come into our hands and we are ready to cast them.”
