In Norway, the man who has admitted carrying out a bombing and shooting attack last July that left 77 people dead has told a court that he deserves a medal of honor for his killing, and has demanded to be set free immediately.

Right-wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik, 32, appeared at a court hearing in Oslo on February 6, which was attended by survivors and relatives of victims of the attack.

Breivik has admitted to carrying out the bombing of a government building in Oslo and a shooting spree at a Labor Party camp on Utoya Island.

His trial is due to start in April.

He claims the massacre was provoked by government immigration policies and has described it as a "preventative attack against state traitors."

A preliminary psychiatric evaluation found Breivik criminally insane.
