President Donald Trump tweeted on Friday one of his conditions for immigration reform. Referring to "chain migration," a term which is used to describe the sponsoring by citizens or permanent residents of the US of relatives for visas, the president said that it may not be included in any forthcoming immigration legislation.
"CHAIN MIGRATION cannot be allowed to be part of any legislation on Immigration!" Trump wrote on Twitter.
The statement comes after Trump was criticized by Republicans in Congress who were surprised by his negotiations with Democrats in Congress over the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program instituted by Barack Obama, which allows work permits and delay of deportation for more than 800,000 illegal immigrants who entered the country as minors.
