Vatican 'Osservatore Romano' to be published in the U.S.

Article Tools

Starting next month, the Vatican's official newspaper 'L'Osservatore Romano' will be published and distributed in the United States. As of August 2012, the U.S.-based weekly 'Our Sunday Visitor' will carry the Vatican paper as a supplement. Our Sunday Visitor is also the name of the publishing house for the weekly of the same name, and will be responsible for marketing the Vatican-based newspaper. The OSV publishing house also releases books.

The Osservatore Romano is a must-read, not only for Catholics, but also for observers of the worldwide church. American ambassadors, for instance, receive complimentary copies of the paper in its weekly form. The Osservatore Romano carries speeches and homilies pronounced by the Pope, as well as news about Vatican appointments and affairs.

The OSV publishing house also prints other marques of interest to Catholics, including The Priest, Grace in Action, My Daily Visitor, and The Catholic Answer.  The OSV publishing house was founded in 1912 by Bishop John Noll as a means of addressing perceived anti-Catholic biases in the media and society at large. The OSV weekly publication is edited by John Norton, while its publisher is Greg Erlandson. Monsignor Owen Campion is the associate publisher.
