Despite calls from some sectors in the Democratic Party that a further leftward lurch would be a boon to a party in the midst of soul searching, a poll conducted by Politico/Morning Consult showed that in a hypothetical matchup in 2020, the incumbent President Donald Trump would trump Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
Released today, the polls showed that Trump would trounce Warren: 42 to 36 percent.
While being well-known for progressive views, millennial voters appear to favor Trump to Warren by a slim margin: 39 to 37 percent.
Trump would thus have gained a margin over his prospective contender as compared to the results of the 2016 presidential election when he received 37 percent against Hillary Clinton. Trump would trounce Warren throughout all groups: all age and income groups, Independents, and college degrees.
