U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has arrived in Iraq on a surprise visit.

Biden's visit on November 29 comes as U.S. forces prepare to leave the country by January.

Biden is expected to hold meetings with Iraqi officials over future U.S.-Iraqi ties.

Baghdad and Washington failed earlier this year to come to an agreement that would allow American troops to stay in Iraq past their December 31 departure date.
