Guatemalan journalist murdered

A Guatemalan journalist was murdered by unidentified shooters in Guatemala's eastern department of Jutiapa, nor far from the border of El Salvador. The victim was identified as Jaime Jarquín Napoleon Duarte, 63, who was also a retired teacher. The shooting occured in the town of Ciudad Pedro de Alvarado, in the municipality of Moyuta (Jutiapa).
 
Jarquin, who was a member of the Association of Journalists of Guatemala (APG), was meeting with three friends when assailants opened fire on March 20, according to Nuestro Diario, a Guatemalan daily. Jarquin's companions, Ottoniel González (43 years), Wilson Rivera and Hector Gonzalez (both 40 years), were injured in the attack. It has not been reported whether the victim had received death threats before his demise. So far, police have not declared a motive for the attack nor the identity of the assailants.
