Back in the 1990s, AmeriCorps was the brainchild of erstwhile President Bill Clinton. It was intended to provide college education free to young people by giving them government-sponsored employment by helping in government-approved community and environmental projects. But along with other programs that came before Clinton, AmeriCorps now appears to be headed for the dust bin if the Trump administration has its way.

Among the programs the Trump administration is circulating for elimination is the Corporation for National and Community Service, which finances AmeriCorps. Others include the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, which support projects on college campuses.
