President-elect Donald Trump thanked Linda Bean for her donation to a pro-Trump Super PAC during his presidential campaign. He wrote a tweet today, saying:

“Thank you to Linda Bean of L.L.Bean for your great support and courage. People will support you even more now. Buy L.L.Bean.”

Linda Bean appeared on “Fox and Friends” today, saying in an interview that she will not back down from her support for Trump. A liberal group, Grab Your Wallet, is advocating a boycott of L.L. Bean, a catalog retail business that has long been known for its quality clothing and home furnishing. On Fox News, Linda Bean said that the boycott is “very much a case of bullying.”

Linda Bean serves on the board of the L.L. Bean company. She is the granddaughter of Leon Leonwood Bean, the company’s founder. She has long been active in the Republican party and ran twice for the party nomination to serve as a Representative of Maine’s 1st Congressional District. She is a donor to Republicans, making a $60,000 donation to Making America Great Again LLC, a Super PAC that supports Trump. Earlier, she had donated $35,000 to a Super PAC supporting Trump’s primary opponent, Fiorina, and $15,000 directly to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). She also donated to the Republican National Committee.

Linda Bean wrote a letter in 2012 to Maine Republicans in support of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and in which she compared President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler. “OBAMA is HITLERIAN in his course, and he is closing in VERY FAST to eliminate totally our liberty rights and heritage,” she wrote. Her letter also said, “America as we know it may well be gone in four years.”

Linda Bean is the owner of a chain of seafood restaurants called Linda Bean’s Perfect Maine. The restaurant became the focus of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in 2013 when it conducted an undercover investigation showing inhumane treatment of lobsters at the company’s slaughterhouse, with the lobsters having their limbs ripped off and being boiled alive. As a result, a Delaware North food service management company that provides concessions in Boston, announced that the company would no longer purchase lobsters from Linda Bean’s Maine Lobster. Bean called the PETA investigation a “full scale attack” on Maine’s lobster industry that would endanger the jobs of thousands of people.

Once the boycott against L.L. Bean by Grab Your Wallet became public, the gave notice on Facebook that it was “disappointed” by the tactic, noting that Linda Bean is one of 50 family members involved in the business. The notice said “...we are deeply troubled by the portrayal of L.L.Bean as a supporter of any political agenda. L.L.Bean does not endorse political candidates, take positions on political matters, or make political contributions. Simply put, we stay out of politics. To be included in this boycott campaign is simply misguided, and we respectfully request that Grab Your Wallet reverse its position.”

Grab Your Wallet says it will not back down until Linda Bean is no longer on the company board of directors.
