Yes, you've come a long way across the Tiber. I also made the swim. |

Posted - 04/24/2011 : 13:46:25 Welcome aboard. To help you on your continued faith journey, I recommend you take the time to read and reflect on Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI's encyclical promulgated in 1968.
Consider not only what he said on the matter in particular, but also what he warned would happen if the birth control pill became commonly accepted.
At the time what he said was considered to be too horrible to contemplate, now it is barely thought of at all, even though every aspect of it has since come to pass.
I look at this document as evidence of the guidance by the Holy Spirit. I have also yet to find a single error defined by any pope (yes many protestants would disagree, but they merely look at it from their own modern tradition, not historical Christianity). |

Posted - 04/24/2011 : 02:53:20 I joined a while ago, but have mainly been debating on Catholic Answers Forums. I've decided to give that a miss for a while.
I'm a convert to Catholicism from Protestantism, but with a couple of significant differences of opinion from the Church, namely on artificial contraception and the "infallibility of the Pope", so I may as well say so here. Mind you, I think the Pope's statements are binding and/or loosing as per Christ's promise to Peter. But I baulk at the word "infallible'.
That said, I generally think the Catholic Church is "closest" to the truth.
My wife is Baptist, and we were both Protestant when we married. As a consequence I am well aware of the gulf that exists between the churches at lay level, despite the ecumenical movement. |

Posted - 06/22/2009 : 18:02:47 Hi Everyone,
I felt i needed to introduce myself after several posts. I went here after google suggested this forum. I became a member here in an attempt to discuss with some (e-mail) friends and clarify our differences in faith/confessions. I wish they follow suit.
I'm geekborj (m) from the Philippines, married and has one boy (2.5 y.o.) and another on the way. I'm a Catholic convert since 2005. I fell in love with Christ in the Catholic Church. I found the Catholic Teachings most coherent of all I can find.
See you all around. May God give us grace to help each other grow in faith, have hope, and spread the love. |
