Yes, it is the Lord's place to forgive. Here's a part from that post:

"When a priest acts in persona Christi (in the Person of Christ), the words he speaks are not his own. Rather, they are Christ’s words. Christ is the one who forgives, and likewise, it is his hand that traces the Sign of the Cross as absolution is pronounced. Jesus was beside me that day, walking me through that dark and murky swamp of regret and remorse that is my recollection of post-baptismal sin and disobedience against the One I love because he first loved me. He (Jesus) walked with me all the way through reconciliation, just as he has done in times past and as he will do in the future."

In Confession (and during the Mass, etc.), the bishop or priest is acting "in the person of Christ", so his sins have no effect. Like Scott Hahn pointed out in the CD I mentioned on my blog, some doctors are overweight and smoke cigarettes and have other unhealthy habits, but their prescriptions are just as valid as those written by a healthy doctor.

When Jesus walked the earth, the people he forgave heard it confirmed in his own words, experiencing forgiveness with all the senses. Could you imagine how awesome that would be? I believe he wanted us all to be able to experience that, so he set it in motion. That, and he knows we are capable of deceiving ourselves (I have asked God for forgiveness, even having faith that I had been forgiven, only to later realize that the weight of the sin I had confessed had still been building up over time).

Matthew 9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. 3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. 4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? 5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? 6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. 7 And he arose, and departed to his house. 8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

Jesus received the power to forgive sins from the Father who sent him.

After Christ had risen...

John 20:21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

In 2 Corinthians 2:10, Paul says, "To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ."

and...

1 Corinthians 5:18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.

Is it not in the Lords place to fogive us?This is one reason why I left the church.I wish I could make up my mind I battle every day every hour.B3
