Stop looking at denominations and seek the Church Christ established. Jesus promised that the gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church, and Paul affirmed that the Church is the Pillar and Ground of Truth.
The Bible translation of your youth has likely not changed, so use that one if it makes you feel more comfortable. Any Bible recognized by the Catholic Church is a good translation, but some do come with warnings - but mostly for their footnotes, not the translation itself.
The Protestant NIV translation did have some major problems, but most have been rectified in the newer versions. But I still would not recommend it for Catholics.
Latin Vulgate
The link above will provide you with the Bible in Latin with an English translation. If you have been attending the Mass in Latin, then this on-line Bible could be useful for you. Of course, having a hard copy at home is very useful.
Sometimes it feels like it might be safer to just stay at home, but if you are reading the Bible, it will tell you that you need to be part of the Church, and that the Bishops and Presbyters (priests) are there to guide you.
Jesus did not establish a Church for us to go off and live as if we were to make a solo journey to Christ. We are meant to be a community, in communion with each other and God. We are called to help each other and watch out for each other.
The Two Great Commandments are these:
To love God with all your heart, mind, body and soul; and,
To love your neighbour as yourself.
If you hide at home you cannot fulfill the second commandment, and if you do not do this, you risk also not fulfilling the first because you have not trusted in His Word.

I answered your question already.
The Muslims believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Moses. How many pagan gods had prophets named Abraham, Isaac and Moses.
If you can name me one pagan god that fits that bill, then I will have to agree that the Muslims are pagans. However, if you cannot name one pagan god that has three prophets named Abraham, Isaac and Moses, then you must agree that this is the same God and that the problem is that they do not understand God.
Remember there is a very key distinction between Christians and Muslims - they follow a false prophet named Mohammed. Mohammed did not teach the True God, but a false representation of Him. But that does not mean that they believe in a different god. There is no other god, only the God of Abraham, Isaac and Moses.
'Nuff said.
Wait just a cotton picking minute, they do not believe in the same God as christians ,please, they are not christians! Christians believe Jesus and God are the same and they don't believe Jesus is the same as God , so how can they have the same God as us? It all stopped when Jesus was nailed to the cross and even before that. If you don't except Christ as the Son of God and as the Father of all Then you are not a believer and worship a false God! lacy-1

Saying that Muslims believe in the same One God (but w/ a flawed understanding of him) is not at all a claim that they are Christians.

News Pakistani bishops urge repeal of Islamic nation's blasphemy law October 29, 2009 Pakistan’s bishops have joined other Christians in taking part in a new campaign to repeal the nation’s blasphemy law under which those accused of defame the Qu’ran or Mohammed may be condemned to death.
The bishops and other Christian leaders also “demand removing all sectarian, faith based and discriminatory material from the educational syllabi being taught to our young children in the schools,” according to a Pakistan Christian Action Forum statement. “We appeal to the print and electronic media to provide space involving the minorities for building a strong pluralistic society with democratic values, to ensure peace, justice and tolerance in Pakistan.”
The AsiaNews service has produced a three-part special on Pakistan's blasphemy laws, encouraging Christians (and other human-rights activists) worldwide to contact Pakistani authorities and urge a change in the legislation.

Muslims are not Christians and no one has claimed otherwise. Christians, Jews and Muslims all believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Moses.
Jews and Muslims do not accept the Trinitarian understanding of God, and do not accept Jesus as the Son of God. That being the case, neither Jews nor Muslims can be considered to be Christian.
Jews at least have the same Old Testament (Tanach), and understand that a Messiah was promised, they just think that He was late. But do have a better framework for understanding if they allow their minds and hearts to open up.
Muslims believe that the Qu'ran supersedes the Tanach and New Testament, and this new book while based on Christian and Jewish texts and traditions, is not an accurrate representation of any of the True Scriptures. They do accept Jesus at least as a prophet, and perhaps some day they will accept what He taught and then see the truth.
Until this happens, they are not Christians and only through Christ can they be saved.

Where is the true church? First woman to head German church
Posted:
A survivor of breast cancer, Bishop Margot Kassmann is the first woman to lead the Evangelical Church of Germany. A Catholic archbishop congratulated her and noted her devotion to ecumenism.

Proper thing. It's not her fault that her church failed in its leadership. Perhaps it needs her to bring them back into the Fold. If she is truly devoted to ecumenism, she may be open to the Catholic Church's teachings in time.
Of course, her position as Bishop in the Evangelical Church of Germany is not considered by the Catholic Church to be equivalent to that of a Catholic Bishop, but the same would be true if she were a man.

don't be silly lacy... there are loads of great women in the catholic church... after all you don't need to be a priest to be a great woman any more than i would need to bear children to be a great man. i hear this feminist crap often, and while i do believe that women have gotten the short end of the stick in history, i think it's sad that the brunt of the attack goes to a church that is accused of worshipping a woman. truth be told most of the notable christian women in history are all catholics, many of which have had their writing preserved by the church and were honored and canonized by the church... hard to see how that is being pushed around by men, but i would suggest that these great women are being pushed around by the feminist. by trying to find ways of attacking men through attacking the church, the feminist has degraded the many historical saintly woman of the church.

Many of the "Doctors" of the Catholic Church were women. Who would ever call Saint Catherine of Sienna a pushover? Or Saint Teresa of Avila? Women being pushed around by men? Men may have pushed, but they did not move either of these saints.
Saint Catherine was not above telling off a Pope if he wasn't behaving himself.

it's funny how strongly the modern feminist movement has influenced the modern woman.. to be sure they did need to get in a better place than they were, but it seems that it wasn't good enough, now they need to vilify and accuse all men.

I think Catholic woman are alot like Mormon woman, they stay home and have kids and work after they are grown etc. I know alot of woman work now to but they are alot alike in this respect. I know a catholic actually alot of catholic's that have 10-18 kids, and they suffer poverty because they love their husbands and each other and they have to do everything natural. I am still having problems with that. My poor grand mother had 13 kids and she died having a historectomy at age 50 because her uterous was bad but she had a bad reaction to the anestesia and died. She only came here to have kids and left. Not a very good life. lacy-1
