I would like to know if anyone knows, where Mary's body was and where it is now? When i was a child i remember my mom told me that when she died a rose was found where they put her body. Now i realy want to know if that has been changed or if it is still the same and how does anyone know? lacy-1

why dont we pray to John the Baptist?....Jesus had much more to say about him than Mary...this is one of the major reasons that bible believing people dont take roman catholicism serious.

The rose might be true, but it's not a requirement of faith.

Hello Astralis, what do you mean, not required? Do you know what happened to her and when? Was there a rose left there? Isn't there any books about your mother of the church? lacy-1

Mary is in heaven, body and soul. I don't know about the story of the rose.

I do not know about the rose, but according to our tradition, she did die and was buried, but when they came to finalize her resting place she was not there any more. Early Christians were very concerned as to where all Christians were buried and even risked death to gather the bodies of the martyrs to ensure that they were buried properly. Mary did have a resting place, but is no longer there.
The reason that early Christians found out that her body was gone was because of the Jewish burial practice of the time. In that region and during that era, it was customary to lay someone out on a flat surface in a tomb for a period of time, in a burial shroud, and then return to put the dried bones into an ossuary to be kept in a niche in the tomb. This saved space and seemed like a great idea in an area that was largely rock.
Jesus was discovered missing when the women who ministered to Him went to His tomb to prepare Him properly for burial - He was initially placed hastily in recognition of the Sabbath. I have read that it may have been a similar case with Mary, but even if not, her bones were never found and she was not put into an ossuary - the Naked Archeologist notwithstanding.
There is Biblical presidence for this. Moses also died, but his body was later retrieved - as recorded in Jewish tradition, and repeated in Christian Scripture, see Jude 1:9. Also in Matthew 17, when Jesus brough both Moses and Elijah to be seen by Peter, James and John. Moses appeared to be no less physical and alive as Elijah, so much so that the Apostles wanted to built tents for each of them and Jesus. Elijah was taken bodily up to Heaven without dying.
Since Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life, it would be incredulous if He should raise up Moses and yet allow His own mother, chosen from all humanity, to rot in a tomb. Since her body has never been found, it seems that we all have hope for the resurrection.

I never thought of that, there were a few who were in scriptures that were seen in body form and were dead, and i thought it would be a good thing for him to take his mother to but i figured they were all in the spirit, So if you were to open Pauls or any of them that walked with Jesus tumb they would not be there? Has there tumbs ever been opened? If not why not and how come there has been others who have been opened and declared saints? lacy-1

The other saints are where they were put, or moved to. Yes, just ask any anti-Catholic who has a fixation on early Catholicism - they will tell you that we had a morbid fascination with the dead and put their bones in Cathedrals and Bascilicas all over the place.
We do. What is another interesting thing is that among the saints we also have what have become known as The Incorruptibles. Some saints, even after centuries, have not decomposed. Others have had specific body parts remained intact that were related to something that they were famous for.
Others, even though great in our eyes, did decompose. This does not necessarily mean that any were truly greater than any others, but it is curious. Little miracles that keep our faith strong.

Makes me wonder if they all had the same DNA that did not decompose? May be one certain tribe? That would be interesting to know. lacy-1

Not likely. These were different saints from various times, through to the present day. There is no indication that they were from the same family.
It is possible that in some cases, environment may have had an impact. The right conditions can preserve just about anyone. But others may have been a little more difficult to explain.
To my knowledge, these are not given to scientific study, but any type of embalming or mummification is not considered to be the same thing. Such a body would not be considered among the incorruptables even if it remained intact.

Lacy-1 - First we must understand that the assumption means. Regrettably many Protestants wrongfully confuse the assumption with the ascension. Jesus, being God, ascended into heaven by His own power since He is God. Mary was assumed not by her own power, just as Enoch was assumed. "Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, for God took him away" (Gen. 5:24) Elijah was also taken taken into heaven in a Chariot of Fire. Now, thinking rationally, would Jesus, who loved His mother more than we can ever love our own mother, allow her body to rot in a grave? The woman He (being God) chose from all eternity to bear His Body, allow let her flesh rot like any ordinary human? If you had the power would you do that to your own mother? Not only that, but her assumption of Body and Soul gives us, ordinary humans, hope in the resurrection. Our belief is that Mary did not ascend by her own power, but was taken up to heaven body and soul by her Son. The Evangelicals belief in the rapture and if they stopped for a moment and contemplate on the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that would give them even greater hope.
Many object because of what it says in Cor. what "...all die..." but then would that invalidate the belief in the rapture? Many believe they will be taken up into heaven, but then that would contradict scripture that "all die". We all die because of sin in us, but our belief is that Mary was sinless (that is for another thread) so thus Jesus our belief is that Jesus took His Mother body and soul into heaven. The bible is silent regarding Mary, and we believe that the Bible is NOT the sole rule of faith but the Church who is the "Pillar and foundation of Truth" and Holy Tradition says that Mary was taken up into heaven. She did not ascend by her own power. But again too, we believe that there are many things not in scripture but in Sacred Tradition. The Church stands on a tripod; Sacred Tradition, The Bible, and the Magisterium. Regrettably many attempt to stand on only one leg and that is their downfall. Think about it: we have the Via Dolorosa where Our Lord walked and carried His cross to Calvary. We have the place where St. Peter is buried underneath St. Peters Basilica. We have the tomb where Jesus was buried. We have many places of veneration of many saints, yet we have not a single place of veneration of the greatest woman to walk on the earth. The woman who carried by Man-God in her womb. Would we not have a place to venerate the woman chosen by God Himself? Since the early days of Christianity the Church has always placed great emphasis on the remains of the early Christians, i.e. Paul, Peter, etc, etc. However, the remains of Mary would certainly have been placed higher than any of those saints, yet we find nothing to indicate where Mary is buried or where her remains are. Why??????? You will never find it because our belief is that since before the Bible was compiled Mary was TAKEN up into heaven and you will not find a Church father arguing against that belief. In fact I think it was not till the eight century that some dude argued against that belief BUT it was not the belief of the Church as a whole. Here is a prayer circa 300 AD. "We turn to you for protection, Holy Mother of God. Listen to our prayers and help us in our needs. Save us from every danger, glorious and Blessed Virgin." invoking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Heaven.
God Bless.
We must never glance at what is good in ourselves, much less ponder over it, but we should search out what is wrong and what is lacking. This is an excellent way of remaining humble. --St. Vincent de Paul Ad Jesum Per Mariam

At1ment, Thank you , I do believe she is all body and soul with her Son. You are right, why would Jesus not take the very heart of his heart? No He would, she is there all of her. God Bless you to lacy-1

Are you telling me that catholics believe Mary has been resurrected separate from the church? If Mary should be an integral part of being a christian, then why is she not mentioned throughout the new testament which I will remind you begins with the Book of Acts....Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are the four gospels, but the new covenant does not begin until Pentecost when the Holy Spirit is given....Mary of course is given a very unique and blessed part, and she declares how blessed she is along with the declaration of Elizabeth, but you cant take any instructional scripture from Paul, Peter, John, James, anywhere in the new testament and declare that Mary has a place in worship or intercession...doing that is a great example of believing in doctrines of men versus the doctrine of the Word of God!! This is an obvious fork in the road, where do you get your final authority from God or men?

Mary was taken up bodily, as was done with Moses, Elijah, and Enoch.
As for Mary's role as intercessor - it was not necessary to be mentioned in the New Testament - the mother of the King has the role of intercessor. This has been the case since King Solomon.
If Jesus is the legitimate hier to the Davidic Throne that God promised would endure forever, then Mary is Giberah, Queen Mother. Every one of the Apostles would have known this, and she does get mention in the Book of Revelation.
The role of Queen Mother/Intercessor is not greater than the King. This was never the case.
