Legalism - Militant Fanatical Ultra-Orthodoxy

I was reading a post over on the CA Forum written by a Catholic who lives in a condo in Israel:

The thread starts out discussing the sell of eyewear with blurr spots built into them - so that unmarried male Orthodox Jews can continue to refrain from contact with unmarried females.

The thread & that post provides an inside look at the various levels of religous practice within Judaism, and in particular explains the fanaticism of legalism demostrated by a small but very vocal militant group of present day Ultra-Orthodox.

The writer's explanation helps shed light on the degree of fanaticism (legalism) in ancient Judaism, which resulted in Christ's cruxifixion.

P.S. Read the "Comment" section....

Does that mean they will stop throwing stones at women and stop spitting at little girls on their way to their 2nd grade classrooms?

I can remember holding the doors open for a couple of sidelocked and bearded Hasidim at the gift shop at the Dallas Ft. Worth airport. They did not acknowledge my gesture but one of them covered his mouth and belched as he passed me. I was later told it was a sign of disrespect. They're a peculiar bunch, all right.
