Osteen is teaming up with Catholics to make a movie about Our Lady, which he says is a prequel to "The Passion of the Christ". I believe the Passion people are working on it with Osteen as executive producer. The film is said to be very "Catholic", though the Nestorian title makes me wonder. This should be interesting.

That's what I'm saying. I have no doubt the title has something to do with money. With Osteen, it has potential to be well marketed and will get a ton of good publicity with the Evangelical crowd... "Mary, Mother of God"? Not so much.

Plus, I just found out Al Pacino is playing King Herod. I have to watch it now.

I was reading some of the comments of news articles covering this story and one thing is clear. Evangelical Christians are not happy about this one bit. I personally have nothing against Osteen except that my fiancee has a crush on him (Grrrrr)! and he preaches that feel-good Christianity in the manner of a motivational speaker rather than a real theologian. Maybe that is why he is so revered by lukewarm Christians. I questioned his motives as well about making this movie. At first I thought sure, more $$$ for Joey O. But he's not backing down from the pressure in his own church and I gotta say, I kind of admire him for that. And lets face it; he's not about to call Mary the Mother of God. If he did, there would be no reason for him not to be Catholic. While I doubt that I'll actually go see the movie it sounds interesting. Let us know how it turns out.

Exactly. I do see him as more of a motivational speaker, and at first this bugged me, but I see potential good in it. He's for the churchless. I used to attend a Presbyterian church whose mission statement was pretty much "Get the stay-at-home Christians back into church". The preacher there actually propelled me to Catholicism.
Sure, Osteen wants more money, but I commend him for teaming up with Catholics. He could have easily produced a b movie with that kid from Growing Pains and made a lot of profit, but he didn't. By portraying a Catholic Mary, he risks offending Evangelicals. Perhaps he has some truth in him. I read where he considered Mary to be the first Christian.
I'll definitely let you know how it turns out. I usually don't buy into this sort of thing, but I watch everything and anything with Pacino (serious practicing Catholic BTW) or Deniro in it.

How wonderful! We should always honor our mother! Especially Christ's mother!

I also get the feeling that Osteen thinks Catholics have some sort of a monopoly on Mary. Not that it's our fault. Maybe people are simply waking up and realizing that there is more to Her then they have been led to believe. I was very moved while watching the summer olympics last night when the Ethiopian athlete Meseret Defar crossed the finish line for the 5000 meter race and immediately produced a picture of Our Lady of the Passion. With tears in her eyes she thrust the picture in front of the camera and kissed it repeatedly. Whether or not her intercession to Mary helped her win the gold is not my point. People would be foolish not to take advantage of the graces that Christ bestows on them by way of intercession to His mother. I quit going to the movies years ago. If I were to pay money to watch this thing and it had St.James, Jude, and Simon the Zealot as His brothers I would be thoroughly PO'ed. And if it ended with anything less that her bodily Assumption into heaven, I would ask for my money back. I can wait for the DVD. Again, I commend Osteen for taking on this project. I realize that he is not Catholic and we cannot expect him to portray Mary from our point of view. Hopefully our separated brethren will take a second look at Mary and see what they have been missing.

I completely agree.
I believe that we are all on a journey and become closer to Him when we seek the Truth. I do hope many will come to love Mary as Christ did. Hopefully this movie can be a part of someone's faith journey.
