As you will or have noticed, you can either reply to a topic or reply with quote to a topic.

The difference:

Pressing reply will simply permit you to reply to a post, self-explanatory.

Reply with quote replies to a post and places the post that you're replying to directly in your reply with quote strings around it. This is especially useful if you're replying to a post in a very long thread and it might be on page two of a five page thread. This will remind everyone what was being discussed so your reply won't seem out-of-place. But, the difficult part is getting used to pressing reply to quote when pressing reply is better. For example, if the post you want to reply to is the last post in the thread, then your reply will go directly under it and people will be able to easily follow the thread instead of having to read all the quotes.

Really, that post with the quote above was not necessary because pressing reply would have been more efficient without the redundant quote because it was directly under the post.

...so you're saying that what I'm writing now will show up directly beneath what you just wrote?

and if I want to quote myself, I could do it below?...

colossi3: Why do you not show the threads, such as 'Authority'. What happened to them?

I replied in the thread you dedicated to that question.
