“Our immigrants cannot be treated in this manner. We are deeply dismayed and have expressed our concerns to the US government through our embassy in Washington”, said to reporters Foreign Minister Haroldo Rojas, denouncing that “the human rights of Guatemalan migrants in the US are not being respected”.

The minister was referring in particular to a US police raid on a May 12 at the Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville, Iowa, in which 389 immigrants were arrested for possession of false documents, including 287 Guatemalans.

According to witnesses, the arrested migrants were then transferred to a sort of detention camp set up on land used for the local cattle exhibition fair, where they remained for days in the cold, without food or hygiene services; around eighty of them were then directly tried and handed down sentences of seven to five months in prison before repatriation.

Based on official statistics, the heightening of US immigration policies have caused an increase in the forced repatriation of Guatemalan citizens in the past years: with over 23,000 in 2007 and already 9,000 since the start of 2008. The IOM (International Organisation for Migration) estimates that at least 1.2-million Guatemalans live outside their country, 90% in the US, 60% of which ‘illegally’. US immigration are stepping up raids on employers, such as meatpackers, where large numbers of legal and illegal immigrants work.

With the Postville, meatpacking plant being caught up in sweeps of (ICE) Immigration and customs Enforcement, it was discovered at least 390 illegal aliens working at ' Agriprocessors' Not only had they voted in union matters, but the courts deemed in it's ruling valid. The question is how many illegal foreign nationals are voting in primaries? If people came to this country illegal and broke one law. It doesn't need any stretch of the imagination to know that they will perjury themselves and vote in our general election, when so much is a stake; our countries future?

Overpopulation, congestion, urban sprawl, pollution, environmental damage, crime, diminishing resources, Diseases, lack of affordable housing, depressed wages, underground economic, fraudulent documents, identity theft, tax evasion, soaring crime rate, increased tax burdens, overcrowded schools, uneducated children, overcrowded prisons, inadequate health care, the balkanization of our communities and a large and growing population with loyalty to other Nations. Just read this disturbing revelation of costs, that our government skims from our paycheck to pay an illegal Paul. (www.eagleforum.org/sources)

As for the Postville plant, now that the illegal aliens have been removed. The employers will have to hire waiting citizens and pay decent wages, with benefits. It will not be long before the 'deserted town' will quickly accommodate US workers, who want to be near their job. Did this author quickly forget that the company quickly will transported new legal hires, to work at the plant. Remember the new President will enact a massive AMNESTY, then that promotes an open-door for millions more to come; compliments of the Globalists. A few states now are representing the American taxpayers, such as Arizona, Georgia, Oklahoma and Rhode Island, instead of the special interest lobby. It's taken forty years of complete inattention or betrayal by Washington and timid Governors, Mayors and their lieutenants. Now they must face up to the fact that the majority of taxpayers are sick and tired, of being a welfare system for big business who hire cheap illegal labor. The 'blue dog' Democrats headed by Madam Pelosi, doesn't want the Federal SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) to come to a vote, to halt the travesty of our immigration laws. Call your Democratic lawmaker to represent you and not corporate welfare?

Mr. Rojas,
The Guatemalan government and citizens should honor our Immigration laws. "Illegal Immigrants" are called "Illegal" because it's "Illegal" to enter the United States or any other country, including Guatemala.

If you don't want your citizens arrested for being here illegally, you might want to tell them to stay home until they are given permission to enter our country. How does your country deal with illegal immigrants?
And please learn to distinguish between legal and illegal immigration as there is quite a difference. Any legal immigrants from your country would have nothing to fear from our ICE officers. That's the difference! Legal immigrants have our permission to be here, the others don't and need to return to their home countries and try to get here the other way, you know, with permission~!
