An upcoming documentary video by John Ziegler delves into voters’ ignorance of basic facts of US politics and the past of President-elect Obama. In asking pro-Obama voters as they exited polling places, Ziegler got surprisingly misinformed answers. Obama voters were asked by Ziegler the same questions conducted by Zogby International in its November 13-15 telephone poll of 512 Obama voters.
In snippets of the video that are available at Ziegler’s website HowObamaGotElected.com, Obama voters could not correctly identify Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D) or Senate Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid, nor could they correctly identify the majority party of both houses of the US Congress (the Democratic Party).
The documentary is due to be released later in 2008 and has questions that mirror the Zogby Poll of Obama voters. In the Zogby Poll, for instance, 57.5% could not correctly say which party controls the US Congress. The poll also showed that 82.6% did not identify Barack Obama as having started his political career by getting his opponents (of the same party) removed from the ballot in an Illinois state legislature election.
Nonetheless, only 13.7% failed to identify Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the vice-presidential candidate whose party had spent $150,000 on her wardrobe, and only 6.2% failed to identify that it is Palin who has a pregnant teenaged daughter.
Ziegler, in an interview on FOX news, attributed the voters’ ignorance to “media malpractice”, and a bias towards the Obama campaign on the part of members of mainstream media.
Ziegler is a popular radio talk show host who has produced another video “Blocking the Path to 9/11: The Anatomy of a Smear Campaign.” A graduate of the Jesuit-run Georgetown University, he has described himself as a “recovering Catholic” and a libertarian.
