A singer and songwriter, marathon runner, and an internationally-known speaker, Gianna Jessen’s life has been extraordinary. Indeed, her coming into the world was extraordinary, if not miraculous. At an auditorium on October 13th at the University of Michigan’s campus in Flint, Michigan, Jessen gave her “testimony” which she began by saying “I was aborted, and didn’t die.”
Jessen, who has testified before the US Congress in favour of pro-life legislation and applauded by US President George W. Bush, survived a saline abortion 28 years ago. Having suffered since that time from cerebral palsy induced by her traumatic coming into the world, and undergone numerous corrective surgeries, Saying that she could have sued the abortionist who oversaw the saline injection that nearly killed her, Jessen says “My cerebral palsy is a gift”.
Jessen says that it is her calling to bear witness to the intrinsic value of human life and to live her own life to the fullest. “I don’t die easily”, said Jessen to the 200-plus assembled students from UM-Flint and neighbouring colleges.
Jessen said that she does not flinch from giving the details of her near-death at the hands of a Planned Parenthood Inc. abortion clinic when she survived in utero for eighteen hours in a caustic saline solution before being removed from her mother’s womb. Doctors at the hospital where she was eventually taken could not explain how she was able to survive her immersion in a salt solution. “My calling is “…to be the best Christian possible, to show people the love and kindness they crave, and deserve. I want to honour God by loving people.”
Jessen told the students that testifying to the bringing up facts of abortion “is uncomfortable, but it is only then that it will affect your conscience”. The challenge to bearing witness to the effects of abortion in today’s world, said Jessen, is that “Today we won’t let ourselves be uncomfortable for more than 5 minutes.”
Jessen condemned those who live by “What is most convenient for me, and whatever will cost me the least sacrifice”. Some might wish that she might “go away”. For example, Jessen said, the feminists who support abortion wish that she would die. “If abortion is all about women’s rights, what about mine?” said Jessen, who said that all too frequently the rights of unborn ch
