Rights Campaigner Gunned Down In Ingushetia

Maksharip Aushev was buried today. Some 3,000 mourners gathered in the drizzle outside Nazran, Ingushetia's largest city, to say goodbye to the opposition campaigner.

Some 3,000 mourners gathered in the drizzle outside Nazran, Ingushetia's largest city, to say goodbye to the opposition campaigner.

Aushev was murdered on Sunday when his car was sprayed with bullets as he drove to visit family in the nearby republic of Kabardino-Balkaria.

Aushev's murder is just the latest in a string of killings this year aimed at rights workers in the volatile North Caucasus region.
