When one reads the results from the vote on the referendum in Portugal to legalize abortion, one can only wonder what happened to the hearts of this predominantly Catholic country. The Roman Catholic Church clearly condemns abortion in no uncertain terms. So what has happened to the hearts of the Portuguese people to not only vote for aborting their own children, but to have such a low voter turnout for a life and death issue like abortion?

The article ' Portugal Voters Fail to Legalize Abortion, But Govt Will Push Bill,' is also troubling in that even though there was not enough of a majority to make abortion legal, the socialist government of Portugal is working hard to see to it that Portuguese babies are dismembered and forgotten.

The article states that the "Results of the voting showed that 59 percent of voters cast ballots in favor of legalized abortion while 41 percent voted no."

"This must be a wake up call to all of the churches across Portugal. They cannot sit in apathy as this landmark decision is being wrenched from their hands by a government who is bent on destroying the unborn children of Portugal." So says Phil Magnan, director of Biblical Family Advocates.

Magnan continued, "This is the time for all good Catholics and other Christian organizations to fast and pray fervently for their children, their nation and their government. They must realize the need for nationwide repentance from their apparent apathy and sin. And then they will have the moral and spiritual authority to demand of their government the justice that is due the unborn child. If they fail to act at this dark hour, God will certainly curse their beloved land for the shedding of innocent blood."
