Rev. Graham Taylor, known to readers as G.P. Taylor and as the author of Shadowmancer, is said to be "hotter than Potter" and the new CS Lewis, claims he's living in fear after death threats were posted on the internet days before the wheel fell off his car while driving.
The former vicar said he was driving from a speech at a school when his Mercedes' front wheel fell off which was discovered to be attached by only one nut.
"I'm the victim of an insidious hate campaign among some adults who don’t like my books. These people flood the web with messages inciting harm towards me and one recent posting read ‘should we want to kill him.' It was very scary when the front nearside wheel fell off as we were just 50 yards from the junction of the motorway. A few minutes later we’d have been doing 70 mph and it could have been fatal.
"As it was we almost toppled into a ravine - in the light of the threats on the internet I was terrified by the incident. I am a former policeman and checked the damaged wheel – all the nuts bar one had been removed and that had sheared off as we travelled. We were very lucky indeed – God was looking over us. It is very concerning for me as among the bloggers putting the boot in is a member of staff from a book chain and the chap employed to translate my books into Romanian has been approached by people suggesting he should include hidden messages in the work," Rev. Taylor said.
After self-publishing his first book, Shadowmancer, in 2002 while as a $20,000-per-year vicar, Taylor, 42, was picked up by a major publisher and has netted more than two million dollors from book sales around the globe and also film deals.
Taylor's chauffeur said the damage to the vehicle caused thousands of dollars in damage. "If the accident had happened at high speed it would have been far worse," she said.
The mystery continued while the vehicle was being towed when the tow truck burst into flames.
Rev. Taylor reported the incident to the police who told him they will investigate.
