List of recalled deadly pet food brands

Five days ago pet food manufacturer, Menu Foods, discovered a problem with their product when nine cats who participated in standard taste tests died after eating the food.  The company issued a recall of 60 million cans and pouches of "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food.  Four days later the recall was extended to more than 100 brands of pet food made between December 3, 2006 and March 6.

The company said the food is linked to kidney failure in cats and dogs and was sold under both store and major brand labels at Wal-Mart, Kroger, Safeway and other large retailers.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating the Canadian-based manufacturer to determine the cause of the contamination.

Currently 13 cats and one dog have died from eating the pet food.

Pet owners should look for signs of kidney failure and consult their veterinarians immediately.  Signs include loss of appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and excessive thirst and frequent urination.

The products recall includes wet food only — in pouches and cans. The cat and dog food was manufactured between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007.
