first off people think farmers treat animals like shit, or abuse them. I live on a farm and see it first hand. The most city pple believe what ever the "peta" pple tell them and its not true. they tried givin the birds in our chicken house more room to live but all they did was crowded even more to feel safe. and if they do pass all these stupid laws be ready to pay 3 or 4 times more money for food.

Thank you for taking time to explain the other side to raising chickens in cages. If people understood both sides of the story before jumping to conclusions about farmers that would be great. I can’t wait until more people understand where food comes from.

Chickens have hierarchies, for sure, but they wouldn't injure themselves if they were living on their own. It's when humans treat them cruelly and as objects that they get agitated and violent.

Mr. Avery is mistaken. There's an overwhelming amount of science demonstrating that caged hens suffer immensely and that cage-free hens are significantly better off.

The Humane Society of the United States offers a comprehensive analysis of the situation at this link:

They conclude that moving away from cage confinement systems is a serious animal welfare improvement.
