Guatemala: Catholics' loss is Evangelicals' gain

A report by Aid to the Church in Need found that half of the people of Guatemala are now Evangelical

I do not understand what good they think Bibles will do. The Evangelicals have Bibles. But more to the point, poor, rural Guatemalans are Maya and speak 28 different languages. Particularly in the rural North, only a few men speak Spanish. And the literacy rate is extremely low. Unless they are translated into their own languages, and teaching them to read, giving Bibles to the Maya is a waste of time, energy and money.
