No--not subtle. Christians have a duty to witness to what they see as the truth. That includes trying to convert people of other faiths. It's part of the package. If someone didn't believe this, they wouldn't be Christian.
For a Christian to say "I don't wish to convert you", it's as much as saying, "I don't wish for you to know the truth." Perhaps even as much as saying, "I don't think you're worth of the truth."
I would think Jewish leaders would be insulted if Christians didn't try to convert them.
