Nastassja Kinski, youngest daughter of the late German actor Klaus Kinski, has expressed shock after hearing of the allegations made by her sister, Pola. In an interview with Bild, a German tabloid, Nastassja Kinski – an acclaimed actress herself – said “I wept a long time,” concerning her elder sister’s revelations that there father had sexually molested her. The paper said that Nastassja Kinski was deeply shocked over her sister’s allegations that their celebrated father was “nothing more than a pedophile.”
Nastassja Kinski has played in several notable films, including Cat People, Tess, Paris Texas, and Inland Empire. Of her sister, she said “I am proud of her strength for writing a book like this. I know the contents. I have read her words."
In a separate interview with Der Stern, a German weekly, Pola said that her father had sexually abused her continuously throughout her childhood and adolescence. “He felt that he was above everyone and that he could do what he wanted,” said Pola, who is also an actress.
In her book, Kindermund (Out of the Mouths of Babes), Pola Kinski acknowledges that her famous father abused her from the age of 5 to 19 years, and that he “simply appropriated what he wanted". She also described living in constant fear of her father's wrath."When I see him in his films, I feel that he acted at home as he did on film.” Actor Klaus Kinski played a crazed and wrathful Spanish conquistador in Aguirre: The Wrath of God and an obsessive Amazonian rubber baron in Fitzcarraldo. According to Pola, her father “abused anyone, never respected anyone” and thus was translated into sexual violence."I was sick of hearing, 'Your father! Great! Genius! I always liked him'," she told Stern. "Since his death, this adulation has only got worse."
Kinski's violent temperament was captured by famed German director Werner Herzog in My Best Friend - Klaus Kinski. "He never respected other people," said daughter Pola.
Pola Kinski (60) is the eldest of the actor’s children, and is a product of his first marriage to singer Gislinde Kühbeck. His other children, Nastassja and Nicolai, are the fruit of other liaisons. Pola said that it is painful to hear compliments about her father, who was lionized in life and whose legend has only grown despite the terror he caused to her.
Nastassja Kinski acknowledges that "this is a difficult time" for her, but says she supports her sister Pola, who she proclaims a “…heroine. She has now freed her heart and soul, and thus her future from the weight of the secret.” She added, “Things like that happen to children around the world, every day. And the more we know about it, the more can be done to help them. They also need courage to speak. Such is the weapon against behavour like this."
Kinski said that “a book like the one Pola has written helps all children, young people and mothers who fear the father, internalize that fear and hide everything in their soul. They should no that there may be help. For all those who are overwhelmed by fear.” Speaking of her father’s abuse, Kinski said that “the mere fact of calling yourself ‘father’, as in this case, does not make it so. The most terrible things happen despite this. Fathers can also do terrible things,” while she invited victims of sexual abuse to report abuse to friends, teachers, parents, or law enforcement.
