Looking very much like the breathless advertisements of President Obama's political campaigns, a satirical video on YouTube produced by the SecondCityNetwork offers a tongue-in-cheek appeal to viewers to "Help Kickstart World War III."
Featuring young people identifying themselves as Obama voters, the video purports to be produced by the 'American's for Whatever Barack Obama Wants, Did you Know He's Friends with Jay-Z?' the video says it is launching a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of raising "1.6 trillion dollars on behalf of the U.S. government," despite the fact that "America is dead-ass broke."
A young man who identifies himself as a barista, says that where the American people come in is to offer donations.
The campaign, says the video, is to support a "Very important, very progressive war, that Obama tells me is very important. So it must be!" The bespectacled man asking for donations says "Remember, when we voted for him in 2008 and again in 2012, we promised to support him: no matter what."
A young woman says that she offers Obama her unqualified support and thus supports both "World War III and IV, and any moon war the president wants to start."
The video promises that World War III will put the "liberal in neo-liberal", says a young woman in a room decorated by a bookshelf and an icon of the Virgin Mary, and promises "millions of troops, thousands of organic grass-fed bombs, hybrid Prius tanks, rockets controlled by iPads, and drones that play the Lumineers while they attack."
Finally, World War III, says the video, would be the most widely broadcast war ever: on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and whatever eventually replaces Pinterest."
