Spero Forum is a collaborative effort first started on a subdirectory of a consulting business website. It was started as a debate forum for non-Catholics and Catholics to debate freely and politely without fear of having posts removed or edited.
A year and a half later, the site was moved to it's own domain at SperoForum.com The site started out as a forum and in early 2003 it moved to news and other articles. The news was updated for over one year but gradually slowed down because the labor involved to collect and input the articles was accomplished by only one person. In November 2004, Robert Duncan joined Spero and merged his successful weblog into the site and took over editorial duties for a rebirth of Spero News which now runs on a weekly basis and publishes original articles written by citizen-journalists.
Spero is Latin for hope. The logo evokes the profile of a sparrow, which sounds like "Spero", and is found throughout the Bible.
