As Spero Forum and Spero News have developed, I've gradually grown them to include some of my pet projects. Many of these could not come together without the support of the Spero community, including the leadership of (and certainly not limited to) Allen Covey and Robert Duncan.

To raise a barn, it requires a community. People like alcovey, Robert Duncan, and everyone who provides input, is a part of the community. alcovey and I have discussed inviting others to help us raise a barn and discuss new ideas for Spero Forum, discuss what works and doesn't work. The analogy of building a barn is appropriate, because Spero Forum already has a solid foundation: its members. By giving them a place in the wiki to discuss ideas, everyone may post anonymously if you want, or you may add your name.

After a few months, Robert wanted to take the site into a different direction, and changed the name to Ibidem, although he still blogged under the name of Jesus Gil. In the summer of 2003, Robert launched the Santificarnos group blog aimed at providing material and support for divorced Catholics.

A year and a half later, the site was moved to it's own domain at SperoForum.com The site started out as a forum and in early 2003 it moved to news and other articles. The news was updated for over one year but gradually slowed down because the labor involved to collect and input the articles was accomplished by only one person. In November 2004, Robert Duncan joined Spero and merged his successful weblog into the site and took over editorial duties for a rebirth of Spero News which now runs on a weekly basis and publishes original articles written by citizen-journalists.

Robert Duncan started his weblog, Pelican Press in 2005, after merging the Santificarnos website and blogs with the Spero Forum site ran by Clint Gillespie. For an interim period his blog at Spero News used the name The Heroic Moment.

Robert Duncan began blogging as a lark in February 2002 at the Atletico Rules blog and under the name of Jesus Gil. After a few months, Robert wanted to take the site into a different direction, and changed the name to Ibidem, although he still blogged under the name of Jesus Gil. In the summer of 2003, Robert launched the Santificarnos group blog aimed at providing material and support for divorced Catholics. In the winter of 2004 the Santificarnos blog branched out into Spanish, and Robert began blogging under his own name. Groundwork was also begun to develop a bilingual news site. The various Santificarnos blogs were eventually closed down (serving as aggregators now pointing to the latest version) and are being folded into the Spero community.
