Neologism composed of the prefix, "neo," meaning new and a truncated form of the word, "catholic": i.e. new Catholic. Coined by Fr. Joseph O'Leary in an article titled "The Rise of the Neocaths" at http://josephsoleary.typepad.com/ Fr O'Leary uses the spelling Neocath rather than Neo Cath or Neo Cath. The allusion to Neocon is based on his perception that many Neocaths are also supporters of the Neocon ideology that led to the Iraq War.
Confusingly, Neo Catholic is a traditionalist term expressing contempt for Catholics seen as innovators; thewandererpress.com/b5-10-03.htm
Neo Cath is also the name of a neonatal oxygen monitor: http://www.electro-medtech.com/x2/Shiley%20Pfizer%20NEOCATH%201000.htm
