A few weeks back I shared that I had made a recording for a new DVD. Well I have a copy of it right beside me, it's a two DVD set, four-hours long, on Opus Dei.
The DVD is called "Saint Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer: Founder of The Opus Dei," and is in English and Spanish. It's produced by a small, independent Spanish company, Beta Films, which has previously released a DVD on Pope John Paul II that was quite good. I don't see this DVD yet posted on their website, although they have the JPII title, and a few others. The main difference, as I understand it, is that this DVD was made for the US market (NTSC), while the previous were for European markets (PAL).
It's a pretty slick presentation, that explains the history and biography of St Josemaria, as well as of Opus Dei, and includes tons of film footage of not only St Josemaria, but also of the canonization and personal testimonies.
One thing that amazes me, is watching the scenes of St Josemaria. Not only is it incredible to see and hear a saint talk to you, but to see how "human" he was, how charismatic, and to catch his sense of humor.
This isn't a sales pitch, but the DVD has tons of scenes where you can see that, and hear St Josemaria in his own voice, with subtitles below, or professional dubbing.
The only thing that brings down the quality of the DVD, in my opinion, is my voice as the narrator. I was told to talk in my normal voice - to not act, or give a radio voice - and to me, my voice just sounds a bit downbeat.
But, that said, I gave it my best, and I promise you that as I read my lines, I did pray that this DVD reaches many people, and inspires them to live holy lives. If it's via Opus Dei great, and if not, so be it. God's will, not mine.
