The practice of worshiping on Sunday was apostolic. Saint Paul, 1 Cor., says that on the first day of the week, Christians should set aside a certain sum of donations then he can collect. It means they were meeting on the first day of the week which was Sunday. Sunday was the day Jesus was resurrected. Some Jewish Christians during apostolic times, though, observed on Saturday too.
Saint John had revelation on the Lord's Day - Sunday.
The Catholic Catechism states "Sunday is expressly distinguished from the Sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the Sabbath."
