Recently Hotmail switched to their Live system and after years of being attacked by spam, the new Live accounts are utilizing more powerful spam formulas with the goal of attracting more people to their accounts. But before you close your cherished G Mail account or mediocre Yahoo account so you can run to Hotmail <sarcasm>, beware of what Hotmail is doing with your e-mail.
Following in AOL's footsteps, Hotmail has employed the shotgun spam detector where all e-mail is considered spam before it even enters their system and is forced through rigorous cleaning and if an e-mail resembles any bit like spam it will get banned without you ever knowing it. The problem with this is that it's an ignorant and lazy method to attack spam. Users are never informed that an e-mail was not allowed through their system. Already, people are complaining that they are no longer receiving legitimate business e-mail or e-mail from friends or family while at the same time the amount of spam they receive remains constant.
When someone can apply for a new job at the current employer's computer, anonymity is important and using these accounts allows many people to communicate with the world without the boss looking over their shoulder.
After you send your resume to a new employer and receive an e-mail for an interview, if you have a Hotmail account you risk never receiving that e-mail. Many businesses do not have the resources to constantly deploy new spam protocols that professional spammers force networks to employ. When they send an e-mail and you don't get it, not receiving it is no longer an excuse. In essence, you can't trust Hotmail.
For now, stay away from Hotmail until they can certify to you that their e-mail accounts will actually receive the e-mail that you want.
