Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized today after sustaining a fall at the high court of the land and breaking three ribs. According to a press release from the Supreme Court, Ginsburg was taken by ambulance to George Washington University Hospital this morning. The notice said that she was “experiencing discomfort overnight” after falling at her office on Wednesday night. She is 85 years old.
On the same day as Ginsburg’s hospitalization, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were scheduled to attend the official investiture of Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh at the Supreme Court. Nominated by the president this summer, he was confirmed by the Senate in a contentious vote and sworn in last month.
Appointed by former President Bill Clinton in 1993, Ginsburg is considered a liberal by some analysts because of her rulings that track with the positions of the Democratic party. Having served for more than 25 years, Ginsburg is a survivor of colon cancer and pancreatic cancer.
