A Catholic nun was murdered on June 23 in Dar es Salaam - the commercial city on the coast of Tanzania. The robbers stole an unspecified amount of money and also injured the nun's driver. The nun has been identified as Sister Clecensia Kapuli (50). She had served as the accountant at Makoka parish in Dar es Salaam. A second nun managed to escape injury.

Witnesses said that Sr Kapuli and her driver were ambushed by three gunmen riding on motorcycles who ordered them to surrender the bags they were carrying. When Sr Kapuli and another nun in the car refused, the gunmen shot Sr. Kapuli. The other nun, who was in the back seat of the vehicle, managed to escape. The driver was also shot, but escaped with his life.
