Following First Lady Melania Trump’s appearance at the White House Rose Garden, where she announced her “Be Best” anti-bullying campaign, CNN contributor April Ryan told CNN show host Erin Burnett on Monday the First Lady is not “culturally American.” Melania Trump became a legal resident alien in 2001 and became a U.S. citizen in 2006, following her marriage to Donald Trump.
In their exchange, Ryan agreed with Burnett that Mrs. Trump confronts faces a “painful reality” when addressing cyberbullying. “She’s well aware of his cyberbullying,” said Ryan. “He’s considered by some, well many I would say in different sectors, one of the biggest bullies. He will call you out in a moment’s notice and she stood in front of him and basically said she wants to show young people how it’s done and do it right and they will pick up those habits.”
Ryan also claimed that Melania Trump will face obstacles to her anti-bullying campaign because she is not “culturally American.” The CNN reporter said, “This is a first lady who is not culturally American, but she is learning the ways.” Ryan continued, “This is not just an American issue. These are not just American issues. These are international issues. Cyberbullying is an international issue. Social media is international and also the opioid addiction issue, so it’s not just here.”
