Today on Twitter, President-elect Donald Trump called out his “political opponents” as well as a “failed spy” for distributing “totally made up facts by sleazebag political operatives, both Democrats and Republicans.” Trump also directed himself in the morning tweets at Hillary Clinton’s former campaign staffers.
The President-elect denounced a salacious, unverified file that Buzzfeed published this week, calling them “phony allegations.” The file was reportedly drafted by a former member of the British intelligence service, Christopher Steele, first on behalf of Republicans opposed to Trump and later by Democrats. American intelligence agencies reportedly informed Trump about the contents of the file. The file assembled by the opposition research alleges that Russia secretly videotaped Trump at a Moscow hotel, and that it has negative information about him. The Kremlin has denied the reports.
Trump tweeted, “It now turns out that the phony allegations against me were put together by my political opponents and a failed spy afraid of being sued…. Totally made up facts by sleazebag political operatives, both Democrats and Republicans – FAKE NEWS! Russia says nothing exists. Probably… released by ‘Intelligence’ even knowing there is no proof, and never will be. My people will have a full report on hacking within 90 days!” the president-elect exclaimed on Twitter.
Trump criticized the Clinton campaign for its insistence that FBI Director James Comey’s October announcement that investigators were examining additional emails connected to Clinton’s private email server was a catalyst for her electoral defeat. Comey announced then that the additional emails did not change his assessment that Clinton had not broken the law. Yesterday, the inspector general of the Justice Department’s announced said he would look into Comey’s announcement and other FBI decisions.
“What are Hillary Clinton’s people complaining about with respect to the F.B.I. Based on the information they had she should never….. have been allowed to run – guilty as hell. They were VERY nice to her. She lost because she campaigned in the wrong states – no enthusiasm!” the wrote the President-elect.
This week, Congress has been engaged in debate over the future of the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare). Trump tweeted, “The ‘Unaffordable’ Care Act will soon be history!” Moreover, he praised his various picks for Cabinet, writing “All of my Cabinet nominee [sic] are looking good and doing a great job. I want them to be themselves and express their own thoughts, not mine!”
