Shots were fired today at the Visitors Center at the U.S. Capitol building. Capitol Police issued an email that went system-wide email that they “are locking down the entire U.S. Capitol Complex due to a potential security threat.” The White House is also on lock-down.

No one is being allowed to enter or exit any of the congressional office buildings. Tourists and visitors are being told to stay away from the area. At the nearby Heritage Foundation headquarters, all personnel were told to shelter in place.

According to the Associated Press, ae Capitol Police officer has been shot and wounded. The officer did suffer serious wounds. The alleged shooter is now in custody.
