Reuters news service is reporting that there has been a shooting on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington DC. In response, Capitol Police have put the Capitol Building on lockdown for the safety of Senators and Representatives. Reportedly, several persons are believed to be injured in the shooting. Information is still coming in about the identity and motives of the shooter or shooters. 

The White House is also on lockdown. DC Police, Capitol Police, and the FBI are on the scene, along with multiple police vehicles.

Several police officers have been reported as wounded. Occupants of the Capitol have been told to 'shelter in place.' A helicopter was seen ferrying an injured man, possibly a police officer, from the scene to a local hospital.

On the evening of October 2, Republican Rep. Sean Duffy of Wisconsin was assaulted as he walked to the Capitol Building. According to local reports, it is possible that the assailant may have been upset about Duffy's position on the current federal government shutdown.
