Muslim extremists are calling for the assassination of American and other Western business leaders. According to Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) website, which monitors Islamic radicalism, the latest edition of Al-Qaeda’s widely-circulated magazine features a cover with the headline “Professional Assassinations” and the subhead “Home Assassinations.” It depicts a disguised assassin observing an upscale home.
Photos inside the magazine include depictions of Microsoft founder Bill Gates splattered in blood. Other targets included the Koch brothers, investor Warren Buffet, and Oracle CEO Lawrence Joseph.
“Inspire” magazine is published by Al Qaeda’s main affiliate located in Yemen, which is known as Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
MEMRI quotes magazine editor, Yahya Ibrahim, who says “assassination is an effective toll in warfare,” and notes that “The prophet ordered the killing of many criminal leaders using this method … And here we are, following the footsteps of the prophet on how he dealt with his enemies and friends.” Ibrahim noted that the previous issue of “Inspire” was focused on what he called "workplace" assassinations. AQAP seeks to train a more "professional" cadre of lone wolf killers.
“We will never put down our weapons until we fulfill what Allah wants from us. We are determined to keep fighting and striking Americans with operations by organized jihadi groups and by Lone Jihad, [and] pursuing America in its homeland — by the will of Allah,” Ibrahim says.
MEMRI said that the magazine “provides detailed information and instructions on preparing for and carrying out various targeted assassinations. It stresses that an assassin should possess different options to carry out an attack, which gives him or her a greater chance for success, and elevates the operation to a more ‘professional’ level.”
“Inspire” magazine features instructions on bomb-making, while encouraging the knife attacks used by Palestinian and other Muslim extremists. Over the last year, Israel has seen a spate of fatal stabbing attacks by Muslims. However, last week a Muslim stabbed to death one man in Germany at a rail station and severely wounded two more. “Inspire” magazine suggests that Muslims should walk up to Americans and stab them to death. There was yet another stabbing attack in Jerusalem today.
AQAP was the first terrorist organize to use English publications widely to find support in the West with the launch of “Inspire” in 2010. It once carried commentary by Anwar al-Awlaki, a Muslim American who was killed by a U.S. drone strike in 2011 in an assassination program under the Obama administration.
